Meditation Therapy Program

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) therapy was developed in the late 1970s by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. It stemmed from Kabat-Zinn’s interest in combining elements of meditation and mindfulness with Western medicine. Although this complementary therapy was initially designed to assist patients with chronic pain, MBSR has since expanded into a widely recognized meditation therapy program used to address various forms of stress.

Central to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is the practice of mindfulness meditation. This involves paying attention to the present moment with openness and non-judgmental awareness. During MBSR, participants are guided through various meditation techniques to enhance awareness of thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and surroundings. These techniques include gentle yoga exercises, focusing on breathing or on an object in the room, and body scanning.
